The Detroit Area Agency on Aging continues to work and shed light on the issue of elder abuse. In fiscal year 2016-17 DAAA received a grant funded by MDHHS to launch a pilot project to raise awareness and promote the prevention of elder abuse through education and training of local faith-based organizations. DAAA partnered with three faith-based organizations willing to raise awareness on the problem and motivate individuals to speak openly with other members and religious leaders about their circumstances as aging adults.
The PREVNT Elder Abuse Tool Kits were developed to elaborate the concerns of the Detroit Area Agency on Aging and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Aging and Adult Services Agency (MDHHS). The Tool Kits outline Elder Abuse Prevention, Caregiver Training, and the Elder Abuse Prevention Training guide.
The following directory provides an outline for each elder abuse prevention and caregiver tool kits including the elder abuse prevention training guide, with resources for contact information and the service area and/or targeted zip codes. These educational tools have been designed to increase and broaden awareness about elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. The design provides a conceptual model for faith-based organizations and other interested partners to assist in the detection, screening and reporting of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation to reduce the amount of occurrences. It meets the core objectives of communicating the issue and securing further investments to scale up what works.
